Air leaks and poor insulation in a attic in Chambly, Qc
Challenge
Ms. Smith had ice dam problems on her roof in winter. Large icicles were forming on the edge of its roof. This very common problem is due to air leaks in the attic. The warm air rises, melting the snow on the roof, and the water turns to ice when it reaches the end of the roof.
Solution
In order to solve this problem, our experts removed the old wool insulation in order to seal air leaks like joints, holes and others in the attic. Then they installed vents on each side of the attic to allow a better ventilation in the attic and prevent air from touching the insulation.
Eventually, they blew just over 16” of cellulose fibers to reach an R-60 value.
