During our thorough inspection of the client’s attic in Saint-Clet, Quebec, it became clear that the existing insulation was inadequate but also contributing to moisture issues. The attic's high humidity levels had led to the growth of mold spores on the wooden joists, which is a common sign of poor ventilation and insulation inadequacy. Mold growth in attics can compromise indoor air quality.

To effectively address these concerns, we recommended a multi-step approach: First, the old insulation, which had deteriorated over time and lost its insulating properties, needed to be completely removed. Insulation that has been exposed to moisture can no longer perform efficiently, and it can even trap mold spores, making the situation worse. After removal, we performed a air sealing process using our ZypFoam. This involved identifying and sealing all air leaks in the attic, particularly around gaps, cracks, and other holes. This step is crucial in preventing future moisture buildup and ensuring that the new insulation would perform optimally.

Following the air sealing, we removed the mold spores from the wood surfaces using our Mold-X2, ensuring the attic space was fully treated and ready for re-insulation. Finally, we installed approximately 17 inches of cellulose insulation TruSoft, which is not only eco-friendly but highly effective in providing a thermal resistance value of R60. This level of insulation significantly improves the energy efficiency of the home, reducing heat loss in winter and heat gain in summer, while also creating a barrier against future moisture problems. With this solution, the client’s attic is now better protected against humidity, mold, and energy inefficiency.
