Issue

Mr. Leduc's attic lacked insulation. There was only 6 to 9 inches of cellulose in the attic. Which is equivalent to an R19 value. However, Systèmes Éconergie recommends a value of R60 to ensure a maximum comfort in the house.

Solution

Our team replaced the cardboard air vents present in the attic for plastic ones, because the cardboard will decompose in the presence of water and humidity. Then we blew just over 12” of cellulose to achieve an R60 attic value.

The problem: When we've inspected this attic. Jerry our home comfort specialist found that this attic has not enough fiberglass and they were quite a bit of condensation on the ceiling roof. The client has noticed this, too, and wanted to change this factor.

The solution: To resolve this problem, we have removed all the old fiberglass and seal off all the leaking cracks with our expendable foam named Zypfoam. This helps reduces by a lot the risk of air leaking. After, we blew 16 inches of our TruSoft cellulose to achieve R60 of value.

Job Stories From L'ile-Perrot, QC
High humidity and high energy costs in an attic in L'ile-Perrot

Mr. Leduc contacted Systèmes Éconergie because he wanted to have the insulation of his attic evaluated. He felt cold drafts in the house and noticed that the heating costs were getting higher and higher.

Our home comfort specialist inspected his attic and noticed two issues: lack of insulation and cardboard vents in the soffits. There was only 6-9” of cellulose in the attic which is nothing even near an R19 value.

Our team will bring the attic back to an R60 value by adding just over 12” of cellulose fiber and replacing the cardboard vents with plastic baffles. This will make the house much more comfortable in both winter and summer and will also reduce energy costs.

Attic insulation with blown cellulose in Ile Perrot, Qc

The problem: This client from Ile Perrot had a condensation problem in his attic ceiling roof. This was caused by bad isolation and leaking air from his attic. He didn't have enough isolation and it was old, so this fiberglass lost most of its R-value.  When we combine old fiberglass and air leaking this leads us to a bad attic. But, Jerry one of our comfort specialists had a solution to help this client.

The solution: First we needed to remove all the old fiberglass. Why? Because we needed access to the attic floor to seal off all the possible air leaks with our expendable foam named Zypfoam. This helps the attic to keep its temperature at what it should be and it helps to not be too hot during the summertime and not too cold during wintertime. Plus, doing this will greatly help to reduce the condensation of the attic. After sealing all the cracks, we blow 16 inches of our Trusoft cellulose everywhere in the attic to achieve R60 of value.

After our intervention, this client found that his attic was less humid and way more isolated. The condensation has faded away as well.
