Neutralizing Mold in an attic in Varennes, Quebec Neutralizing Mold in an attic in Varennes, Quebec

An attic in Varennes was full of mold spores. Our specialist explained that mold is the result of excess humidity in the attic. This excess humidity is also the result of bad attic insulation. In fact the existing insulation is not sufficient inside the attic, and in addition, there were some air leaks in the attic which were deteriorating the attic's performance.

As a remedy, we removed the existing insulation, before using our excellent Mold-X2 to remove all the mold spores inside the attic. We also used our ZypFoam to seal all the air leaks that were once reducing the insulation's performance. Lastly, we blew in approximatively 17 inches of our TruSoft cellulose insulation.

Job Stories From Varennes, QC
Eliminating Ice Dams with perfect attic insulation in Varennes, Quebec

We recently completed a project for a homeowner in Varennes, Quebec, who was concerned after the formation of ice dams on his roof. Ice dams are a common issue in homes with insufficient attic insulation, as they form due to improper temperature regulation in the attic. In fact, when the attic is not adequately insulated, heat from the living space escapes into the attic. This causes the roof to warm up unevenly. As the heat reaches the snow on the roof, it melts into water. This water flows down to the colder areas near the gutters, where it refreezes due to the lack of heat in that section of the roof. Over time, this process creates a barrier of ice at the edge of the roof, known as an ice dam. As the ice dam builds up, it prevents proper drainage of the water that continues to melt from the upper roof, leading to water pooling behind the dam. This trapped water can then seep inside again, causing damage to the roof, insulation, and even the interior of the home. Additionally, the accumulation of ice and water increases the risk of mold growth.

To address this issue, we started by removing the old, deteriorated insulation that was no longer performing effectively. Then, we sealed all air leaks in the attic to prevent warm air from escaping into the attic, which would stop the formation of ice dams. Finally, we installed approximately 17 inches of TruSoft cellulose insulation with an R60 thermal value. This high-performance insulation ensures that the attic remains properly insulated, helping to maintain a consistent temperature on the roof and preventing the formation of ice dams. As a result, the homeowner can expect better energy efficiency, reduced moisture issues, and improved comfort throughout the year.
