Attic Insulation Photo Album: Insulating an attic that had accumulated ice damns on its roof in Montréal, Qc
Mr. Rouleau was facing the same problem every winter time. Ice dam was forming on the roof of his house leading to humidity and extreme cold.
In order to solve the ice dam problems, our experts removed the obsolete insulation and then sealed the joints and then drilled holes for the wires and the recessed lights with our polyurethane foam to prevent air leaks. They normally add ventilation mats to ensure natural air circulation in the attic. Then they blow 16 in. of cellulose.
This complete insulation solution provides better comfort in the house and avoids ice dams in winter.
Attic with ice dams
The attic had very little fiberglass insulation. This allows the heated air to pass through the attic faster and eventually escape outside.
Air flowing outside your house
Joints like this will clog because they allow the air you heated to escape your home faster.
Ventilation matts
We added ventilation mats to allow good air circulation in the attic and so the air does not come into contact with the insulation.
Air leaks
The attic hatch represents a major air leak. You have to isolate it.
Cellulose blowing
We blew 16” of cellulose to reach an R60 value. This ensures optimal comfort for homeowners and prevents the formation of ice dams in winter.
