Solving moisture and mold problems in an attic in Gore, QC
Challenge
The attic of this house in Gore, QC, had several problems: sagging insulation, air leaks, persistent moisture, and significant mold growth, causing drafts, cold rooms, and high heating bills. Ventilation was insufficient, allowing moisture to become trapped under the old, deteriorated insulation, which increased health risks and reduced thermal comfort throughout the house.
Solution
Solutions implemented by Systèmes Éconergie:
- Removal and remediation of existing insulation: The old contaminated insulation was completely removed, and all areas affected by moisture and mold were cleaned and treated to create a healthy environment for the new installation.
- Complete caulking: Ducts, light fixtures, openings, and infiltration points were carefully sealed to eliminate air leaks. This step improves the attic's airtightness, reduces heat loss, and limits future moisture.
- TruSoft cellulose insulation: We installed our TruSoft blown-in cellulose insulation, made from recycled paper. This dense, flexible material fills cavities perfectly, reduces thermal bridges, and offers excellent resistance to moisture, mold, and pests. TruSoft insulation also provides optimal thermal performance, ensuring a more comfortable and energy-efficient home.
The attic is now dry, clean, and evenly insulated. The home enjoys more stable temperatures and better energy efficiency, while being protected from moisture and mold problems in the long term.
