High-performance insulation and complete weatherstripping in Saint-Constant, Quebec
Challenge
In Saint-Constant, a customer was experiencing thermal comfort issues in his home. The rooms were too hot in summer and too cold in winter, leading to excessive energy consumption and high heating and air conditioning bills. This phenomenon was due to inadequate attic insulation, characterized by insufficient insulation thickness and unsealed air leaks around ducts, vents, and electrical wiring. These deficiencies compromised the home's energy efficiency and affected the comfort of its occupants.
Solution
To remedy this situation, Systèmes Éconergie implemented a comprehensive attic insulation and caulking solution. After removing the existing insulation, we carefully caulked air leaks around access hatches, ducts, wiring, and recessed lighting fixtures. This step eliminated drafts and improved the attic's thermal efficiency.
Next, we installed TruSoft blown cellulose insulation with an R-value of 60, which meets recommended insulation standards. This dense, high-performance insulation created an effective thermal barrier between the attic and the living areas, preventing heat loss in winter and hot air from entering in summer.
Finally, radiant barriers were installed to reinforce the insulation and maintain warmth in winter while keeping the space cool in summer. This solution has significantly improved indoor comfort, reduced energy costs, and prevented the risk of mold growth due to moisture in the attic.
Thanks to these improvements, the customer now enjoys a more comfortable, energy-efficient, and healthy home, with a high-performance thermal envelope that ensures a stable and pleasant indoor temperature throughout the year.
