Attic Insulation in Boloeil, Qc
Challenge
During the attic inspection, our specialist identified that the overheating was primarily caused by air leaks, a common but often overlooked problem in homes. These air leaks originated from several strategic points, notably around the chimney, as well as from recessed lighting, which often create gaps that facilitate thermal exchanges. Additionally, openings for electrical cables and ducts also allow warm and cold air to circulate freely between the interior and exterior.
These air leaks do not only lead to summer overheating; they also contribute to significant thermal losses during the winter months. In the absence of effective insulation and air sealing barriers, cold air penetrates the attic, lowering indoor temperatures and forcing heating systems to work harder to compensate for these losses. Similarly, in summer, excessive heat invades the spaces, causing air conditioning systems to operate at full capacity to maintain a comfortable temperature.
Solution
Our solution was to address the issue methodically, beginning with the complete removal of the existing insulation, which had lost its effectiveness due to observed damage. We then performed thorough sealing of all identified areas that were sources of air leaks. This included spaces around the chimney, recessed lighting, and points where cables and ducts passed through, which are critical areas for thermal losses.
Once the air sealing was ensured, we installed high-performance insulation specifically designed to enhance the thermal resistance of the attic. This insulation, chosen for its superior insulating properties and ability to limit heat transfer, not only stabilizes internal temperatures but also optimizes the home's energy efficiency. The result is a significant reduction in heating and cooling needs, along with an improvement in thermal comfort throughout the year.
