Attic insulation in Dorval, QC after basement waterproofing.
Challenge
Our customer, living in Dorval, contacted us mainly because of water infiltration in his basement. During our detailed inspection, our specialist Daniel noticed the onset of ice dam formation on the roof. He then discovered complications in the attic. In fact, the existing insulation was inadequate and old. Daniel explained to our customer the negative effects of a poorly insulated attic, clarifying that his home comfort will be partially enhanced if we just proceed with the basement waterproofing, without properly sealing and insulating the attic.
Solution
After receiving authorization from our customer, our team of workers, managed by Colin, began renovating the attic. While removing the old insulation, we discovered the presence of mold. Thus, we used our excellent "Mold-X2" product to eliminate the existing mold, as well as to prevent its proliferation in the future.
Next, we air sealed the attic. We caulked all air leaks via pipes, electrical wires, ducts, as well as any other holes within the attic. In addition, we covered the attic access hatch with our SilverGlo thermal insulation.
Finally, we blew in about 17" of our high-performance cellulose fiber insulation to achieve a thermal value of R60.
