Overview of the attic before work
The attic did not have enough insulation and it was less than 10 in. of cellulose. In addition, it did not have good air circulation which is very important to avoid humidity in the area.
Lack of insulation
There was less than 10 in. of cellulose in the attic. This equates to an R-38 value. A poorly insulated attic will make the house less comfortable and will increase energy costs.
Seal air leaks
One of the first steps when we insulate an attic is to seal the joints and holes that are sources of air leaks because they allow the heated air to escape more quickly into the attic. This increases energy costs and makes the house less comfortable.
Addition of ventilation mats
We have added ventilation mats to allow good air circulation in the attic.
Blown Cellulose Fibers
We blew over 16” of cellulose fibers to achieve an R-60 value.
