Attic insulation and ice dam removal in Dunham, QC
Challenge
In Dunham, the owners of this house were facing significant heat loss and recurring ice dam formation on their roof during the winter. Their attic was poorly insulated, allowing warm air to escape through cracks and unsealed ducts. This lack of airtightness caused temperature fluctuations, ice buildup on the edge of the roof, and potential water infiltration, while increasing heating costs. The overall energy efficiency of the house was significantly reduced, and indoor comfort was lacking.
Solution
To correct these problems, our Energy Systems team conducted a thorough inspection of the attic to identify all critical areas. We then caulked air leaks and sealed ducts to eliminate hot air escaping to the outside. Next, we installed our TruSoft blown cellulose, an energy-efficient insulation that provides uniform coverage and excellent thermal performance. This material not only helps prevent ice dams from forming, but also protects the roof from moisture and condensation. We also optimized the thickness and density of the insulation to achieve an R-value that complies with Quebec energy efficiency standards. Thanks to this work, the attic is now perfectly insulated, the house retains heat better, the risk of moisture has been eliminated, and heating bills have been significantly reduced.
